Sailing off the beaten track
Ready for new adventures?
After a long trip to Antarctica and Patagonia, I’m back in Europe for the summer, doing short trips along the west coast of Ireland, before my next sailing adventures: sailing to Patagonia with Apsara in late 2025.
I plan to spend the Southern Hemisphere summer there before returning to Europe in early 2026. Then I’m planning to sail to the Arctic in the summer of 2026 (another chance to sail in the ice).
Transatlantic crossings:
Europe to Uruguay Autumn 2025
My new sailing adventure is taking me back to what I believe is the ultimate in adventure sailing: Patagonia.
We will leave France in September 2025 and head south by the classic transatlantic route: Spain, Canaries, Cabo Verde, then from there cross to Brazil (probably Recife) before doing a bit of coastal cruising along the East coast of South America, down to Punta del Este, in Uruguay, where we will arrive in late November. I already have a crew for this leg.
Uruguay to Europe, Spring 2026
This return trip to Europe starts from Punta del Este in late March 2026 with some coastal hopping along the Brazilian coast and then a long offshore leg to the Azores where we will stay a few days before heading back to Europe. I’m hoping to arrive in Ireland in May.
Food on board is vegetarian and as much as possible organic or local, in line with my aspiration to do as little damage as possible to the planet. I’m happy to accommodate vegans as long as they can tolerate my cheese eating habits.
I do not smoke and very rarely drink, so smokers or anyone who likes their booze should find another boat.
I ask for a daily contribution, which is left to your appreciation. Remember when making an offer that you will be sailing with a professional skipper with many years of experience, and on a boat that has been thoroughly prepared for the journey.
I’m a former yachtmaster instructor, and I am always happy to share my knowledge of boats and the sea, so if you’re wanting to learn sailing, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
Thinking of crewing on either of these trips?

Patagonia cruising schedule, winter 2025 – 2026
The boat will spend the Southern Hemisphere summer in Patagonia, cruising off the beaten track:
- December: Punta del Este to Puerto Williams via the Falkland islands. Three weeks of sailing in the Southern Ocean, visiting remote anchorages. Plenty of wildlife.
- January: Chilean Patagonia. from Puerto Williams, we will sail up the Western Chilean coast to Puerto Natales, stopping every night in stunning remote anchorages.
- February – early March: Patagonia, Cape Horn and the Falklands. Puerto Natales to Punta del Este (Uruguay). On this miles building trip, we will first sail down the Western Patagonia coast, exploring and team building while we wait for a suitable weather window for the ultimate sailing challenge: rounding Cape Horn to the Falkland Islands where we will say a few days, exploring this stunning, remote archipelago before continuing to Punta del Este in Uruguay,
