Sailing off the beaten track

Ready for new adventures?

After yet another Transatlantic crossing, Apsara is now in the Caribbean.
I plan to spend the winter there before returning to Europe in early 2026 via Canada, rather than the classic Azores route, which I have already sailed three times. Then I’m planning to sail to the Arctic in the summer of 2026 (another chance to sail in the ice).

Unless I change my mind, go west through the Panama Canal, and sail the Pacific….

Transatlantic crossing to Europe, Spring 2026

This return trip to Europe starts from Colombia (where will take part in the Climate Justice Flotilla) in late April 2026 with a long offshore leg towards the East coast of Canada, with a possible stop in the Dominican Republic. We will stay a couple of weeks exploring the East coast of Canada before heading back across the Atlantic to the West coast of Ireland.

Arctic trip, summer 2026

The plan is to leave the East coast of Canada in June, heading north towards Scotland or the Faroe Islands, then across the North Sea to Norway, where we will do some coastal hopping toward the Lofoten archipelago. From there, we will cross the Arctic Ocean towards East Greenland before heading back to Ireland via Iceland.

Important information for anyone thinking of crewing on board Apsara

  • Food on board is vegetarian and as much as possible organic or local, in line with my aspiration to do as little damage as possible to the planet. t’s best if people who sail with me share these aspirations.
  • I’m happy to accommodate vegans as long as they can tolerate my cheese eating habits.
  • I do not smoke and very rarely drink, so smokers or anyone who likes their booze should find another boat.
  • I ask for a daily contribution, which is left to your appreciation. Remember when making an offer that you will be sailing with a professional skipper with many years of experience, and on a boat that has been thoroughly prepared for the journey.
  • I usually sail solo or two handed, and while I occasionally take two crew on short offshore passages (up to a week), it only works if they share a bunk.
  • I’m a former yachtmaster instructor, and I am always happy to share my knowledge of boats and the sea, so if you’re wanting to learn sailing, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
